Position Title: Education Coordinator

Department: Head Start/Early Childhood

Reports to: Center Director in Collaboration with Chief Academic Officer

Status: Full time

 

Main Responsibilities

  • The Education Coordinator is responsible to support teaching staff on a variety of education issues to include curriculum development, lesson plan development and implementation, learning environment, teaching strategies, behavioral management, educational materials and child growth and development.
  • The Education Coordinator reviews screenings and assessments administered to all children enrolled in the center and ensures that all data is entered into the appropriate computer and hard files.
  • The Education Coordinator supervises Teachers and Assistant Teachers and ensures quality and compliance through regular classroom visitation, monitors using the Early Childhood Education Rating Scale (ECERS) and consultant services.
  • The Education Coordinator assesses training needs and provides for, or arranges, training for instructional staff.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure program's compliance with federally mandated Performance Standards in the area of Education & Early Childhood Development services:
  1. Maintain daily classroom schedule, children's portfolio and other documents required under local, state and/or federal regulations.
  2. Monitor all classrooms to ensure that the required Teacher/ Student ratio is met daily; review the attendance for each classroom and utilize Substitute Teachers when needed to comply with the ratio requirements.
  3. Develop and implement a system that ensures proper educational instruction in the classroom.
  4. Monitor program activities, observe the learning environment, curriculum implementation in the classroom, review lesson plans, and develop teaching strategies with the Teachers and Assistant Teacher.
  5. Monitor data entry into ETO of all children's educational outcomes for completion and accuracy. Run ETO query reports on assessments and conduct random monthly chart reviews of children's files and take corrective action, as needed. (Note: Monitoring should include but are not limited to Lap-D Screening, Work sampling (entered in Pelican system), ASQ- (entered in ETO), Lesson plans, Children's portfolio- done by the classroom teacher, Classroom Portfolio NAEYC requirement.)
  6. Report on outcomes to the Center Director and Chief Early Learning Officer, and support implementation of necessary changes to education program based on those analysis and discussion.
  7. Provide technical assistance to teaching staff to ensure understanding of and demonstrated compliance with all education-related federal performance standards.
  8. Visit classrooms regularly during instructional time to provide program supervision and ensure accreditation compliance including those required by Keystone Stars and NAEYC.
  9. Document formal, as well as informal observations, to include teacher surveys, parent surveys, classroom inventory and classroom portfolio.
  10. Monitor staff evaluations of the children.
  11. Provide feedback to teachers and design staff development training as needed.
  12. Document employee performance and handle employee discipline in a discreet and professional manner.
  13. Other duties that are deemed necessary for the benefit of children and families enrolled in the Head Start Program.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Education with concentration in Early Childhood education or if in a related field, five years experience in ECE.
  • Two years or more experience in supervision, parent education, and staff training.
  • Ability to converse, write and read Spanish and English fluently.
  • Commitment to dual language learning philosophy (English and Spanish).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child growth and development.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse parents, professionals, and community groups.
  • Ability to analyze and use data to inform decision-making.
  • Ability to secure clearances for PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal History, and FBI (required).
  • Awareness of Puerto Rican culture/community (preferred).
  • Ability to speak English and Spanish fluently (preferred).
  • Possess or ability to secure PA Drivers License and insurance (preferred).
  • Ability to secure health clearance every two years and TB once (required).
  • Strong organizing and problem solving skills.
  • Strong report writing and research skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (evenings).
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a team.

 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to climb steps.
