Norris Square Community Alliance thanks the Allen Hilles Fund for their support of our Out of School Time Program (OST). Their $5,000 grant will help grow our OST program which serves elementary and middle school students at Moffet, McKinley, and Hunter Elementary Schools during the 2018-19 school year.

Norris Square Community Alliance thanks Fulton Bank for their generous donation to support our Housing Counseling program. Their support will help us provide the services of licensed Housing Counselors to help Norris Square residents purchase their first home, access support to keep and maintain their homes, and to learn their rights as renters.

NSCA thanks the Comcast Foundation for its generous continued support of youth digital literacy programming and the development of the Employment and Training Center. Comcast has provided NSCA support for three years through its commitment to the Latino Consortium. The $165,000 grant will support a digital literacy initiative that will improve STEM education efforts in our Out of School Time Program. The grant will also support the creation of employment and digital literacy training for adults at the renovated Employment and Training Center, formerly the Carlos Rodriguez Community Center.

This grant from Comcast is in recognition of Comcast's commitment to the communities where its customers and employees live and work. Since its founding in 1999, the Comcast Foundation has distributed more than $163 million in cash support of programs implemented locally in Comcast Communities.

The Penn Treaty Special Services District awarded a $15,000 grant to NSCA to support the Neighborhood Empowerment Project, a community organizing effort aimed at empowering Norris Square residents to make their voices heard in the growth and development of their community and to preserve and increase access to affordable housing.

The William Penn Foundation awarded NSCA with a generous $571,994 grant to support a three year quality improvement initiative for the Early Learning Program. The grant will support capacity building, program planning and evaluation, teacher training and staff development as we strive to bring all of our centers to 3 Keystone STARS status and above.

A special thank you to the Philadelphia Foundation who awarded Norris Square Community Alliance a general operating grant from the Norris Square Endowment Fund. Due the generous support of the Philadelphia Foundation and its donors, NSCA will be able to continue providing quality programming and services to the families of North Philadelphia.

NSCA Head Start was awarded an $300,000 grant by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to fund the NSCA Farm to Table Healthy Eating Initiative. The NSCA Farm to Table Healthy Eating Initiative will serve low income children and families enrolled in our Early Learning program. The Farm-to-Table Healthy Eating Initiative will combine a farm-to-school curriculum, gardening, a focus on nutrition and healthy eating in the classroom, and a robust parent engagement strategy and food access program. The goal of the initiative is to improve how our children and their families consume and relate to food while providing them with access to healthy affordable foods and the tools they need to support good nutrition and overall well-being.

NSCA wants to thank Goya Foods, the largest Hispanic-owned U.S. food company, for their generous donation of products, and  Mr. Rafael Toro, Goya’s Director of Public Relations, for facilitating NSCA’s request. The products will be used in the preparation of delicious, and healthy meals for children in our Head Start centers.

Goya Foods has always been receptive to an array of needs affecting Latino communities across the United States, including the movement to promote healthy eating and combating hunger in disadvantaged communities.  Goya is already making a difference in Philadelphia through their donation of thousands of dollars in products to Concilio Latino for their new food pantry in Hunting Park. Norris Square Community Alliance is grateful for the wonderful donation from Goya Foods and looks forward to strengthening its relationship with this socially-conscious company.
